The 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S will make the debuts at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show next month, but this advance look gives an idea of what to expect from the tire-smoking executive sedans.
On the surface, the E63 is like every other Mercedes-AMG product. It takes the basic bones of the Mercedes-Benz model, enhances the lower air intakes, widens the body and adds some more trim pieces. Its interior is largely the same, except with more carbon fiber and AMG branding all over the damn place.
2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 Performance:
The 4.0-liter V-8 for the first time is fitted with a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, that resulting in 563 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque in the basic, non-S model. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes a mere 3.4 seconds, according to the Mercedes, and top speed is limited to 155 mph.
2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 Features:
Predictably, AMG has made all sorts of upgrades to the E63’s chassis, that include a specially tuned Air Body Control system, new suspension parts on the both ends, three-stage ESP, a mechanical rear differential lock, and an electromechanical speed-sensitive sports steering. Stopping power also comes courtesy of a high-performance braking system along with 360mm discs sporting six pot calipers up front and 360mm discs with single pot calipers at back for the E63 model, and larger 390mm front discs for the ‘S’. Optionally, Mercedes offers also ceramic carbon discs measuring 402mm up front and 360mm at the rear.
2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 Inside:
Inside, the AMG E63 is a slightly shrunken version of the larger, S63, featuring a similar dashboard with the signature four A/C vents on the center stack, and smoother design. Most of the cockpit was carried over unchanged from E-Class, but certain features were replaced by sportier alternatives. For starters, there is a flat-bottom, sports steering wheel in the black leather. The unit comes out with Touch Control and electroplated shift paddles, as well as a bezel with AMG logo.
